Thorney Rogue Kennels   How did we get started?

I have owned Rottweiler’s for as long as I can remember, my husband German shepherd’s. The last two dogs that we have owned have been rottie’s and both in one way or another have had bad back legs. The one which we have now (Rogue) was diagnosed with OCD. For some reason this one really touched our hearts and we were completely crushed by the news. She was only 6 months old when she was diagnosed, but with a lot of care from our vets Humphrey and Kim and with the help of acupuncture and holistic medicine, (I must admit we were very sceptical and this was something we personally laughed off as being another way to get money from people), but it worked and she has shown great improvement.   Her legs may not hold out to old age but her quality of life is fantastic and we cannot thank our vets enough, for the help and patience they have shown.

We decided we wanted to get her a friend but we would not look to another rottie. We started to look for the same size, type and temperament as a rottie with equalled guarding ability.

We found Perro de Presa Canario and to be honest haven't looked back.

After a lot of research into the breed and the breeders who had the dogs abroad, we found the quarantine laws of this country still being six months and the pet passport scheme a major problem, in as much as we could not get hold of a puppy and that was what we wanted. This did not stop us, from that day we decided that this would be the breed of our choice so we started importing. We hope to import more as time goes on.   We found these dogs to be such loyal, steadfast guardians, such good friends to our children, so loving to all family members, intelligent, superior guarding instinct. This breed really impressed us so we made up our minds to go to the Canaries to purchase them, but be careful of   unscrupulous breeders if you are doing the same as they exist in the Canaries as well.

This breed has gone through many changes, some want the traditional name of Perro de Presa Canario others want the new name Dogo Canario to be taken, this you will find a sore point on some related forums and if we can give one word of advice that would be take what you read and hear with a pinch of salt as the only way to find out is to own one and live with one, but of course then there is the decision of which bloodline to choose, this could be another can of worms. We are here to offer any assistance that we can and explain to all that contact us,   to travel up and down the country to visit other kennels to get the full picture of exactly what's out there before making what would be a long term decision on who will spend their life with your family for the next 8-to-15 years.
The bloodlines from our imported dogs, are Irema Curto Canary Islands and Crown Presa USA.
(if you are thinking of importing a dog from either of these kennels please contact us for the BIGGER picture).

All of our dogs pedigrees, adults hip results, DNA certs and Import paperwork can be seen.
