United Perro de Presa Canario Club of the United Kingdom
Great News for Presa Canario's in the United Kingdom.

The United Perro de Presa Canario Club - United Kingdom (UPPCC-UK) has now officially been given permission to be the first recognised, International Sister Club for the Presa Canario here in the UK.

This will benefit all Presa Canario breeders, owners and perspective owners.

Our long term goal is for the betterment of this fantastic breed within the United Kingdom.

Long term benefits of joining- Membership to the UPPCC-UK, which will include "Gripper" magazine full of interesting facts , information and a colour suppliment of Presa pictures from our sister club UPPCC in the USA,(until we have sufficient information and pictures from UK) entitlement to register, litters, puppies, individual dogs, change of ownership, 3 generation pedigrees by a recognised club. All of this will help with UKC (United Kennel Club) and AKC-FSS (American Kennel Club-Foundation Stock Service) which will be accessable to UPPCC-UK members.

For the future, we hope to arrange through our sister club (UPPCC)- Presa Canario Conformation and Weight Pulling Shows (open to all) and three other certificate TBC that can be taken on days of Show, for temp testing, bite work and obedience. For all of these we will be arranging some of the top US judges to come over to the UK.   All ribbons and certificate issued are recognised by all of the above Clubs.

This can only help us in the furture to go towards the recognition of the breed Perro de Presa Canario.

EU countries can also apply.

UPPCC-UK will have further information and prices to follow once we tie up the translation with the membership paperwork as rules apply.

If you would like to join or have any questions about the UPPCC or UPPCC-UK please do not hesitate to contact me on   07708 602 306   or                               Thank you

We are also open to any suggestions, as to what else you may like to see within this club.

The National Perro de Presa Canario Club (NPPCC) was founded in 1990, by Richard G. Kelly and family. The clubs mission was to introduce this new rare breed - the Presa Canario to those enthusiasts who understood and could appreciate the many attributes of this magnificent guardian. Hopefully encouraging prospective breeders to propagate this species according to the clubs "Code of Ethics" and provide a breed registry for all certified Presa Canario dogs. The NPPCC ultimate goal was to achieve breed recognition by one of the two major dog registries, either the American Kennel Club (AKC) or the United Kennel Club (UKC).

In order to further advance the clubs goals it sponsored the transformation of its registry and membership to a new organization. In January, 2002, the new club was formed and is now known as "The United Perro de Presa Canario Club" (UPPCC). With the induction of club Officers and Directors, their missions were to help provide a venue where Presa Canario owners could compete with their dogs in "Conformation, Weight-Pulls, Agility, Obedience and Protection" events, and provide an opportunity to register their dogs with the largest breed specific registry (UPPCC) as well as registering with the UKC and AKC/FSS programs.

As of November, 2002, the United Kennel Club has officially recognized the Presa Canario breed by its historic name "Perro de Presa Canario" and colors of brindle, fawn and black. The breed standard was modified by the UKC, its officers and directors and accepted by the UPPCC. In addition, the UPPCC made known to the UKC we would abide by their "Breeder's Code of Ethics". All registered dogs may now compete at any sanctioned event.

The American Kennel Club and its Foundation Stock service program (AKC/FSS) has recognized and registered Presa Canario dogs since 1990. In May, 2004, AKC announced the FSS breeds are eligible to compete in Sanction B and OB matches, Obedience, Tracking, Agility and applicable breed specific performances.

The United Perro de Presa Canario Club (UPPCC) accomplishments now affords every Presa Canario owner or breeder the opportunity of having their dogs and litters triple registered. Please keep in mind, the UPPCC is the oldest and largest breed specific registry in the United States, having recorded over 2,000 Presa Canario up through the year - 2004.
